SANDAKAN: The State Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced 12 more short-term skills and entrepreneurship training programmes for the youth next year.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Peter Pang said 853 youths would benefit from the programmes that would cater to youths from all societal levels, especially from the rural areas, who may not have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education.

“This shows that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is very concerned and sensitive to the needs and welfare of the people, especially youths who need support,” said Pang during the closing ceremony of the three-day cooking and buns, cakes and pastry courses participated by 49 youths here yesterday.

He added that the youths would build confidence through the skills learnt from the programmes and prepare them in choosing a career.

In his speech, Pang pointed out volunteerism among the youths is strongly encouraged by his ministry.

He said volunteerism is one of the main focuses of his ministry because it promotes compassion, empathy and gratitude within the society.

“These qualities will build a strong body and mind, tolerance and respect for all cultures, and a patriotic spirit for one’s own country.” he said.
