KUCHING: A handbook containing names of Chinese community leaders serving in Kuching will be distributed here once all the photographs and contact details have been compiled.

“I’ve been told that about 10 per cent of them have yet to submit their photographs,” says Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Speaking to reporters after witnessing the presentation of appointment letters of the new pemanca and kapitan at his office in Petra Jaya yesterday, Wong appealed to those who have not submitted their photographs and particulars to do so promptly.

Liu Thian Leong, 56, is made a pemanca for Kuching Rural Area replacing Voon Kim Fah while Tan Chok Ling, 65, is made a kapitan for Bintawa Phase 1 (Kuching) replacing the late Tan Boon Ting.

They received the appointment letters from Kuching Resident Abdul Rahman Sebli Senusi. Also present was Assistant Minister of Public Health Dr Jerip Susil.

Wong said the handbook would consist of the community leaders’ contact details and photographs for easy reference by the community should they needed their assistance. He added that the handbook would be immediately distributed to everybody under the jurisdiction of Temenggong Lu Kim Yong.

Lu, who was also present, said the role of a community leader was not an easy one.

“As a Temenggong for Kuching division, I need a strong team comprising all community leaders working together regardless of their political affiliation to ensure that our community is served well,” he said.
