KUCHING: Tithe payment by companies to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) shows a steady yearly increase.
Its Sarawak general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Naili, who was obviously happy with the rising trend, attributed it to the rising awareness among the corporate sector to contribute to good causes.
TBS had always encouraged tithe payment by companies so that the fund could be managed well and later distributed to qualified bodies and individuals, he said at the presentation of tithe by Pelita Holdings Sdn Bhd and Magna Focus Sdn Bhd at Menara Pelita here yesterday.
A mock cheque of RM300,000 from Pelita Holdings was presented to Chief Minister Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who received it on behalf of TBS was presented by permanent secretary to the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment Datu Sudarsono Osman.
Magna Focus chairman Datuk Wan Alwi Tuanku Hashim presented RM100,000 on behalf of his company.
Taib meanwhile presented ‘Manfaat Wakaf Medan Hamidah’ from Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak to Demak Mosque and Peryatim Kuching. They received RM60,000 each.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman and representatives from both companies were also present at the function.
