KUCHING: More companies are resorting to advertising their products and services digitally, said Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) president, Tony Savarimuthu.

“Anybody less than 30 years old is familiar with the technology, especially as Malaysia has one of the largest number of Facebook users,” he told The Borneo Post when met yesterday.

“How do you get them to use the technology to develop applications for online advertising?” he asks.

Tony said online advertising was on the rise and that “we have young talents for that kind of marketing”.

He encouraged higher institutions of learning to set up multimedia centres in collaboration with mobile and tablet developers, so users could get acquainted with digital technology.

He believed marketers should employ digital specialists in their marketing department.

“You can hire young people aged 24 to 26 familiar with digital technology to be responsible for digital marketing,” he suggested.

Tony believed companies were willing to invest in such talent, and could even ask students to do it for them. Marketers could source for talent from colleges that teach these new technologies.

“Tablet sales and lap top sales are going up while PC is slowing down,” he pointed out.

Tony said they were here to hold a dialogue with young people and entrepreneurs to let them know about the work of the 4As.

He would be returning with programmes on ‘Future of Digital’ later this year.

He was one of the 4As speakers hosting the presentation ‘Stop the Ordinary’ at Segi University College. He spoke on ‘Branding and Creativity’.

Council member and CEO of Amphibia Digital, Gary Tay, spoke on ‘Connect the Dots’, Lowe and Partners chairman Khairudin Rahim – ‘The Power of a High Value Idea’, 4As vice-president and Krakatua CEO Dato Johnny Mun – ‘Careers in Branding and Advertising’ and Dentsu Utama CEO Omar Shaari – ‘ Graduate Fellowship Programme’.

SEGI was represented by principal Elena Tiu.
