MIRI: Members of DAP who are against the party fielding its Senadin branch chief Lim Su Kien in the 13th General Election here proposed that she swap seat with Kuching MP Chong Chien Jen for the polls.

“We don’t want Lim Su Kien as the candidate for Miri, so we propose that Chong switch his seat with her,” said DAP supporter and a vocal member of the protest group, Yong Chee Chan.

Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck also joined a banner protest gathering by DAP members and supporters in town recently, proposing a swap between Lim and Chong for Miri and Kuching seats.

Yong and the protesters suggested this arrangement as they were determined not to support Lim during the election campaign here.

Significantly, Lim did not appear as a speaker or invited guest during last Friday evening’s DAP Miri dinner at Boulevard Restaurant here, where local and outside political leaders from Pakatan Rakyat were invited to speak to a gathering of about 1,200 diners. Last year, DAP Sarawak chairman Wong Ho Leng confirmed Lim Su Kien as the party’s candidate to contest Miri, triggering an outcry among party members who formed a group to protest her candidacy.
