Missing fisherman still not found

PUTATAN: A 40-year-old fisherman who was reported missing and feared drowned at Pulau Dinawan near Kinarut on Monday, had still not been found yesterday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) captain Musa Dail, who led the search and rescue operation, said the rescue teams were still looking for the man.

He said a pump boat, believed to belong to the victim, had been found at Melinsung beach by a member of the public, who immediately alerted the search and rescue teams.

On Monday, Kamsin Ghanis from Kampung Contoh, Petagas, was reported missing and feared drowned when he failed to return from a fishing trip on April 21.

Search operation for the missing man had been carried out since Monday with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department, Sabah Civil Defence Department, police air unit and villagers.

Yesterday’s search operation was called off due to darkness and would resume today at 6am.

It is said that Kamsin is a local with six children aged between four and 16, and a pregnant wife.
