KUCHING: It is imperative that schools adopt the latest technology in their teaching methods so that students can understand their subjects better and faster.

With this in mind, Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said the government under its National Key Result Area (NKRA) had made transformation towards the digital era a key focus area.

“However, it is imperative that such transformation is not only acquired but also involves the act of developing and inculcating knowledge and interest among our students,” said Fadillah, who is also the incumbent and BN candidate for Petra Jaya.

He was speaking at the launching of the website and ‘E-Classroom’ of SJK Chung Hua Sejijak here yesterday.

He pointed to the initiatives by the government to provide free 1Malaysia laptops and ‘Wireless Village’ as part of the programme to enable everyone, especially those in the rural areas, to embrace the digital era.

On a related matter, Fadillah urged parents to maintain good relationship with the school authorities and teachers.

“A good two-way communication between the parents and the school will ensure their children are closely monitored, both in terms of study and discipline,” he said.

He added that inputs from both sides were also useful in improving and correcting any flaws.

Earlier on, in her speech, school principal Jong Saw Hui said the ‘E-Classroom’ was equipped with LCD projector, visualiser, ‘I-Cam’ and ‘I-Pen’ to provide interactive teaching and learning.

“It is also our wish that the ‘E-Classroom’ will be applied to all classes as at the moment teachers will need to book for the usage of the ‘E-Classroom’ for their respective subjects,” said Jong.

Built at a cost of RM40,000, the ‘E-Classroom’ was funded by the school management board.

Among those present were the school’s management board chairman Chai Shong Kian and Kampung Sejijak village chief Bujan Tosan.
