KAPIT: A road to Baleh Dam will be built from Kapit town that will also link the rural people in Tatau, Sangan and Nanga Merit to the division’s administrative centre.
Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the road would be the catalyst for rapid development and change of lifestyle in the remote regions.
“This is one of the ways to expedite development. Before Baleh Dam construction commences, we will build a road as catalyst of change to make this place more accessible,” he said at Rumah Tang Ak Temenggong Koh, Pala Wong, Batang Rajang here yesterday afternoon.
On Rumah Tang, Taib said he saw great improvement in the livelihood of the longhouse folks since the last time he went there, attributing it to the efforts of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
He told his audience that Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), being an area for high-powered industries, needed a lot of energy which required the state to build more dams to meet the demand for electricity.
At the same time, he told them that SCORE provided abundant job opportunities.
In this regard, he advised them to send their children to vocational or technical schools to learn technical skills which are required in the industries.
“Armed with technical know-how, they will have a bright future as they will be able to earn RM2,500 to RM3,500 a month rather than being unskilled labour earning RM500 a month,” he told them.
The chief minister also told the people that Sarawak’s “future lies in the hands of Sarawakians” and not outsiders like PAS, PKR or DAP which would not be able to bring development as they were only good at quarrelling.
“In 20 years’ time, Sarawak will be the richest state in Malaysia. We can achieve this when our people are willing to work harder and support BN government,” he stressed.
On the election, he said he knew nobody else could do better job in Kapit than its incumbent and BN candidate Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“He knows every detail and he works very well with everybody. He’s very hard working, whenever there’s opportunity, he’d ask for the people because he’s a caring ‘wakil rakyat’. Let us ‘sokong’ (support) Alexander so that he continues to serve us,” he said.
Later, Taib announced a grant of RM300,000 for Rumah Tang to build a metal bridge, purchase a generator set and wiring to light up the longhouse.
Also speaking at the function were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and Nanta himself.
Among those present were political secretaries Daniel Jubang and Tengku Geruna, Kapit Resident Dahim Nadot, Kapit police chief DSP Entusa Iman and community leaders. #myvote13 #ge13
