Royal Institution Seminar passes seven resolutions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Institution Seminar (SIRaj) yesterday passed seven resolutions, which among others, want all issues related to efforts or intentions to weaken or destroy the royal institution addressed.

Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin said the strategy to address the issue should be via participation of all Malaysians who are able to contribute from various aspects.

The other resolutions are to enhance the royal institution, improve understanding on the institution specifically the constitution, the customs and good manners of the Malay rulers.

He said all parties should be involved in helping to create and update the database on the royal institution besides creating a monitoring body comprising of NGOs to protect the sovereignty of the race, language and religion.

The resolution also suggested that the study of the royal institution be expanded to include universities and other parties so that the Malaysian Royal Institution Research Center (PKIRM) under UniMAP could be enhanced.

Kamarudin said PKIRM would accept the responsibility to enhance the royal institution and had enhanced PKIRM by appointing four personalities as Fellow and Adjunct PKIRM.

They are former appeals court judge Datuk Mohd Noor Abdullah, political analyst Prof Datuk Dr Zainal Kling, Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria and the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.

SIRaj organised by UniMAP which ended yesterday saw about 20 working papers presented by experts in line with the theme ‘Sustaining Monarchy Rule.’ — Bernama
