Ex-police Association wants abuse of police logo to be stopped

KUCHING: The Sarawak branch of Malaysian Ex-Police Association (PBPM) is irked by certain individuals who abuse the police logo by placing it on their private vehicles.

At a press conference in their office at Rubber Road yesterday, acting chairman Jack Joni said those continuing to do so have a personal interest, and are flouting the law.

“There are many that place the police logo on their private vehicles, and why they do that, I don’t know.

“But from my point of view, those with the logo can enter any area without being restricted,” Jack pointed out.

He said there were also people who believed that those with the logo will go unpunished if they break the law, like flouting traffic regulations.

According to Jack, the police logo can only be placed on police official vehicles and those of their senior officers, but with the approval of the department.

Noting that such abuse had been going on for a long time, Jack said there was still no action taken.

“Such abuse has long been debated, seven or eight years back, such logo cannot be used by the public, but the matter still persists,” he stressed.

He called on the public to inform the police if they know of individuals selling or distributing the logo, adding that immediate action must be taken.

He opined that such abuse will only confuse the public, and also give a negative image to the police.
