THE State Legislative Assembly has no objection to the proposal to name Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin as Sabah opposition leader.

Its Speaker, Datuk Seri Panglima Salleh Tun Said, said in a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

“Although the position of opposition leader is not provided for in the State Assembly Standing Order, I have no objection to the proposal from the opposition representatives to appoint Lajim as their leader.

“I received a letter from Lajim on the proposal, which was signed by five Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and one State Reform Party (Star) representatives. I also received a letter dated June 12 from the PKR office, saying Lajim was appointed as opposition leader and I have no objection to that,” he said.

PKR leaders who signed the proposal were Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew, Inanam assemblyman Roland Chia, Matunggong assemblyman Jelani Hamdan, Kadamaian assemblyman Jeremy Malajad and Moyog assemblyman Terrence Alon Siambun.

Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing and all DAP representatives have not submitted their proposal.

Salleh added that a special room is available for the opposition, in line with the democratic practice in the country.
