SIBU: The final blasting of the remaining boulders at Pelagus Rapids will be done by end of the year.
Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) chairman Datuk Roland Sagah said yesterday that it (blasting) was an additional effort approved by the state cabinet which did not come under the original contract.
“This blasting work approved by the state cabinet involves parts of the rapids that haven’t been blasted. We expect the work to be completed by year end though subject to weather conditions and spill-over (water) from Bakun,” he said.
Sagah, who is deputy speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and Tarat assemblyman, added: “This could possibly be the last part of the works unless there are requests in future.”
Asked on the news report about express boats tickets could now be bought from the SRB office in Marudi, he said this was to prevent overloading of express boats and regulate the price of tickets.
He, however, clarified that the boat operators were the ones selling the tickets in their (SRB) building. The measure was nothing new as it had been done for over a year now, he said, adding that it was being implemented in stages in wharves and jetties statewide due to financial constraint.
