Please be patient, JPJ tells public

SERVICE SUSPENDED: The apology notice at Kenyalang Post Office.

KUCHING: The state Road Transport Department (JPJ) is calling for patience and understanding from the public in view of the current problem with their road tax renewal system.

State JPJ is having a nationwide problem with their system as it has been upgrading its old system since last week.

“The IT section in our headquarters is working hard to fix the problem. Contrary to alleged complaints that were voiced on social networking sites, members of the public
can still renew their road tax but they just have to bear with the slowness as we are in the process of upgrading the system,” public relations officer Rogie Saui explained in a phone interview with The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said federal JPJ had recently issued a statement concerning the matter and hoped that the public will understand.

“If their road tax is not close to expiry yet, they can renew once our system is back to normal. If their road tax has expired, they can still renew at our office but it would take some time. Please bear with us as we bring transformation to the road tax renewal system,” he said.

Meanwhile, a quick survey at Kenyalang Post Office yesterday afternoon showed that most people were there to pay utility bills and only a handful was there to pay their road tax.

However, the road tax renewal service was temporarily unavailable at the said post office.

A contractor in his late 40s surnamed Voon said he was told of the system’s problem by his colleague but he went ahead to try his luck, only to be greeted by an apology notice that the service was not available.

“Since my road tax only expires after Raya, I will renew it at a later date. I hope the new system will be up and running smoothly by then,” he said.

A forwarding clerk Awang Zulkifli, who was equally disappointed, said he will have to take time off later this week to go to JPJ office to settle his road tax as it will be expiring soon.

“I understand the post office has temporarily stopped the service because the system is slow and it is hard for people to wait a long time. I have to take a morning off this week to settle this at the JPJ office. I’m expecting a lot of people there due to the slowness. I hope JPJ will be able to solve their problem soon because it is causing inconvenience to everyone,” he said.
