KUCHING: Malaysian singer and film director Namewee (real name Wee Meng Chee) will be coming to town to promote his latest and third film ‘Kara King’ this Saturday at OneJaya Mall in Jalan Song here.

Two new Malaysian artistes, Iris Woo and Ribbon Ooi, who appear in the film will also be at the event which starts at 2pm.

Several exciting promotional activities including mini games, posters giveaway and sales of movie related products will be held.

It will be a golden opportunity for the public and fans to meet the stars, where Namewee will also be holding an autograph session.

The promotional event will continue at Lido Star in Jalan Sekama here at 9pm where Namewee is expected to take the stage while local band Slap! will also be performing.

Produced by Fred Chong (Nasi Lemak 2.0 and Hantu Gangster), Kara King was simultaneously released on Aug 1 in six countries — Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Kara King is a musical comedy with a multi-national cast from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Canada starring Namewee, Ng Mang Tat (from Stephen Chow fame), Frankie Gao (veteran Taiwanese singer), Tiger Huang (popular Taiwanese diva), Christopher Downs (Canadian and Taiwan personality), Moses Lim (popular Singaporean celebrity) as well as newcomers Iris Woo and Ribbon Ooi.

It is a heart-warming story about how the estranged relationship of a retired Karaoke King (played by Wu) and his rebel rocker son (Namewee) is mended through the power of music.

Wu won the Regional Karaoke Championship in Hong Kong by beating his Taiwanese friend Gao (Frankie Gao).

When Gao’s love interest Ah Hu (Tiger Huang) accepted Wu’s marriage proposal, the rivalry between these two Karaoke champions turned into a lifelong competition.

During the peak of his singing career, Wu suddenly gave up all the fame and fortune of his career and disappeared from Hong Kong with his two children.

Just when Wu thought he could take all the secrets with him to his grave, Gao finally found him and came to wreck havoc at Kara Village.

With the news about his long lost wife at stake, Wu is forced to come out of retirement for one last duel between the two Karaoke champions.

It was reported that this was Namewee’s largest project to date with production cost exceeding RM3 million or three times the budget of Nasi Lemak 2.0 with an aim to build an appeal to regional audience.
