Murder suspect shot dead in Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU: A murder suspect was shot dead when he tried to attack police personnel who came to arrest him for allegedly stabbing a man to death at Kampung Koyah B, Paris 3, Kinabatangan yesterday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the suspect was shot by police officers when the latter became violent and started attacking police officers with a ‘pisau Bugis’ (curved knife) when he was asked to surrender.

“The man was wanted for a murder in the same area this morning.

“When police arrive to arrest him (suspect), he became violent and started to attack the police with a curved knife, police had no choice but to open fire in self defence,” he said, adding that the suspect was killed instantly.

Meanwhile, Sabah Crime Investigation Department chief SAC Omar Mammah said both suspects, believed to be foreigners, had just finished a game of cock fighting after attending a friend’s wedding ceremony when the incident happened.

“Police are still investigating the case and to identified both men as no documents were found on them during the incident,” he said.
