Second placed SMK Kampung Nangka, Sibu, and third placed SMK Sadong Hilir, Samarahan, received RM500 and RM300 respectively, in addition to trophies, certificates, Maggi hampers and portable cookers.

For the Creative Maggi Challenge, SMK Engkilili, Sri Aman, emerged champion.

Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, who officiated at the event, said the food industry had great potential in the international market.

“There is a great future in the food industry, especially with our halal logo recognised internationally. So don’t look down on the industry,” he said.

The competition was organised by the Education Department and Nestle Sdn Bhd.

Hasbi added the competition was timely due to rapid developments in the food industry, which required more professionals.

“Cooking programmes like this could also help to change the mindset of our people towards professions in the food industry,” he said.

Hasbi later presented government grants to parent-teacher associations in the district.
