Sabah Native Courts need more women staff – Native Chief

KOTA KINABALU: Matunggong Native Chief Elin Masilin is urging for more female participation in the Sabah Native Courts.

Speaking at the first day of the UMS Symposium on Sabah Native Customary Rights yesterday, Elin said there are only eight Native Chiefs in Sabah at the moment, with no woman holding a District Chief post.

“I recommend that the relevant authority appoint more women in this important institution as there are many qualified women who can hold posts in the Native Courts.

“Typing work in the Native Courts is done by the members because we do not have official clerks to do it, but I am sure there are women who are into this kind of job.

“Apart from that, there is no doubt that women have the same working quality as men and are just as trustworthy, so I would like the government to consider this proposal,” she added.
