BESUT: A teacher at a Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergarten (Tabika) lost about RM40,000 in cash and jewellery to a snatch thief in front of the Kampung Raja Post Office on Sunday.

Besut District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria said the incident happened about 12.30pm when the 57-year-old victim, a teacher at Tabika Kampung Limbongan, was getting into her car after doing some transactions at the post office.

He said the woman had placed her handbag on the front passenger seat and was getting into the driver’s seat
when a man, who was earlier seen getting down from a silver coloured Myvi car not far from the post office, approached her car and suddenly opened the door and snatched her handbag.

The woman was shocked and only watched the man ran off with the bag and fled in a waiting car, he told reporters here yesterday.

Kamaruddin said the victim, who then lodged a police report, claimed that her bag contained RM5,000, a diamond bracelet, a gold bangle, seven gold and diamond rings, a gold necklace, two sets of gold earrings, handphone and personal documents, like ATM cards and bank account books.

Based on the description provided by the victim, the suspect had a moustache, sunken face, wore a hat and was clad in a brown shirt and jeans, he added. — Bernama
