KUCHING: A former postman, who walked out a free man after he was discharged and acquitted of trafficking in cannabis earlier this year, had his case reopened and is now ordered to enter his defence in November.

Abdul Malik Suaidi, 33, will have his defence call at the Sessions Court on Nov 29 after the appeal from the public prosecutor to re-open the case was approved by the High Court.

He was previously discharged and acquitted after the Sessions Court judge found that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima-facie case against the accused in February this year.

Abdul Malik allegedly trafficked in 75g of cannabis in a house at Taman Dahlia at Mile 5, Jalan Matang here at about 2am on Aug 9 last year.

He was tried under Section 6, punishable under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which can carry a sentence up to life imprisonment but not less than five years’ jail and a minimum of 10 strokes of the rattan.
