MIRI: Water supply to 1,000 residents in Lower Tukau here have been restored at 8.30pm Thursday after being shut down for exactly 24 hours when the main pipe was damaged following road erosion.

Miri area manager of Laku Management Sdn Bhd, Lo Su Onn thanked Laku’s contractor for expediting the repair works on the pipe dislocation caused by a developer’s drain construction.

“In the meantime, we are considering relocating our main pipe from the eroded area similar to what Sarawak Energy has done to prevent recurrence of the incident in view of the inclement weather.

“We have to do it soonest because as long as the slope protection is not done, it can happen again,” said Lo when contacted yesterday by The Borneo Post.

He thanked consumers for their cooperation and in fact during the shutdown, none of them requested for alternative supply of water.

Meanwhile, one of the consumers affected by the shutdown, Iqbal Abdollah also thanked Laku for the commitment in getting water supply restored.
