KUCHING: The Muslim community should strive to achieve a balance between excellence in this world and excellence for the hereafter.
In line with this year’s Maal Hijrah theme ‘Wasatiyyah Tonggak kesatuan Ummah’, the Muslim community should work to improve self and move forward, said Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak (LAKMNS) honourary secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Bujang Mohd Nor.
Speaking during yesterday’s Maal Hijrah celebration at Masjid Jamek Sarawak, Bujang called upon the community to make this ‘hijrah’ launch pad for positive change so Muslims will always move towards excellence in all things.
“I understand that the activities organised today encompass spiritual, health, economy and various other aspects, which shows that the community wants things that will bring them benefit, especially in Sarawak,” he said.
“Let us truly appreciate the true meaning of ‘hijrah’ and not look behind us, but always look ahead and move forward.”
The mosque hosted an array of events in its compound yesterday, bringing together the Muslim community with activities ranging from spiritual to sports, sales and health checkups.
The objective is to unite and bring the Muslim community close to the mosque, as well as emphasise the importance of staying healthy physically and mentally. It also opened up avenues to allow them to pursue business opportunities.
According to LAKMNS general manager Mohamad Sabry Othman, the programme began on Oct 26.
“This year’s celebration and our past celebrations placed emphasis on involvement of the community and members of mosques and suraus.
“This is to draw the interest of all age levels to work as a team,” he said, adding that the response was very encouraging.
Also present was Kuching North City Commissioner Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai, who was also LAKMNS honourary treasurer.
