NS trainees register themselves at Sibu Town Square Phase II.

SIBU: National Service (NS) trainees here began heading off to camps elsewhere yesterday.

Bumimas camp deputy commandant Captain Mohd Hadzrin Mohd Nawi told thesundaypost that among them were 30 trainees bound for Millennium Camp, Kuala Lumpur.

There were also 183 trainees heading to Bukit Saban Camp in Betong.

“Tomorrow (today), based on the list, there are 152 trainees bound for the PLKN (NS) camp in Bintulu. On Monday, we have 141 trainees on the list to Bumimas camp while 227 to Junaco Park,” Mohd Hadzrin said.

Some trainees turned up for registration as early as 6am yesterday.

Among the parents seen accompanying their children was Abu Seman Jahwie — a political secretary to the Chief Minister — who was there with youngest daughter Amelanuradha.

He said the programme is a good approach to instil discipline among youth to safeguard them from social ills.

“They will be exposed to leadership training and teamwork building, which are among the core values in nation building,” he said.

The Jemoreng assemblyman said the programme is also good for character building as it positively conditioned trainees mentally and physically.

“It also goes a long way to foster national integration. Patriotism and love for the country would be ingrained among the trainees,” he added.
