MIRI: The Welfare and Medical Services Foundation of Malaysia celebrated the Maulidur Rasul celebration together with its charitable home Rumah Anak Kesayangan Kami (RAKK) at Permy Mall here yesterday.
The first ever celebration was organised by Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Permy Mall and Naim.
Director of Global Ikhwan for Zone 2 (Miri and Bintulu) Norzihan Ghodzali who represented the foundation gave a short introduction on the role played by the foundation.
Norzihan said it was set up to address the welfare interest of the people, particular among the targeted Muslim group such as orphans, single mothers, children from broken families and poor families.
Among the foundation’s community services were to help orphans and abandoned children.
To date, there are 80 charitable homes throughout the country registered under the care of the foundation and RAKK in Miri was one of them.
“The foundation is also having a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts using the Islamic approach.”
Parents or guardians who are having problem with their children can refer them to the council or further assistance such as counselling.
In addition to that, the foundation in Peninsular Malaysia provides treatment to drug addicts and medical treatment to patients with financial problems through their clinics and hospital.
Youths under the care of the foundation has set up a nasyid and cultural group to promote the beauty of Islamic cultural arts.
Later, the chairman of th e home Ramli Maiyadim said the charitable house started its operation since 2007.
At the moment, it houses 29 children and teenagers between aged 4 and 15 years old.
He said the Maulidur Rasul celebration at Permy Mall was part of the home’s efforts to promote themselves to the community.
Also present were Penghulu Sameon Ghani and Permy Mall assistant manager Thadeus Sia.
