PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry yesterday announced that the trade description order with regard to selling of products made from pig and dog skin would be effective from Feb 1, 2014.
In a statement, its minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said the order, gazetted on Dec 27, 2013, was one of the measures taken by the government in looking after the interest of consumers, particularly Muslim consumers.
“The order will help remove doubts among consumers when buying products made from animal skin and hair,” he said.
Hasan said the ministry’s officers would also provide advisory service to traders and business associations on this matter, as well as carry out monitoring on the sale of such products in the market. — Bernama
