SHAH ALAM: The management of i-City is confident that the number of visitors coming to the digital theme park in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 will not be affected by the fire which struck the Red Carpet Wax Musesum last Wednesday.

I-Berhad deputy chairman Datuk Eu Hong Chew said 10 wax exhibits are currently being replaced and reconstructed and the museum will open to the public in two months.

“Although the fire cost us a couple of million ringgit, we will still work with Tourism Malaysia to reopen the wax museum as it is an iconic product promoted to tourists for Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

“We believe the number of visitors will not be affected following the incident because i-City has other attractions such as a snow house and theme park which have the potential to attract tourists,” he told reporters at i-City here yesterday.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings at the museum showed three unknown individuals entering the museum through the entrance used by i-City security guards before they set the exhibition area and several wax figures on fire.

Eu said among the exhibits destroyed in the fire were figurines of international icon Mao Zedong, US president Barack Obama, Tunku Abdul Rahman and celebrity Jackie Chan.

He denied allegations that the incident was a result of business competition, adding that i-City would tighten security in the future. — Bernama
