MIRI: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) continues to play a leading role in nation building and is the biggest contributor to the national economy.
In saying this, Petronas Sarawak regional office manager (Communication and Media Relations) Johannes Ridu added that unfortunately, not everyone was aware or fully understood Petronas’ contribution towards nation building.
“As such, it is our fervent hope that the media including those in Miri will help correct the negative perception on Petronas.
Help us also to promote awareness and understand our role in nation building by advocating our socio-economic contribution to the state and nation, our environmental conservation initiatives in the state especially in Miri, our position on issues related to our business and operations as well as to correct public misperception about Petronas,” he said.
Johannes was speaking at a Petronas Chinese New Year dinner with the media at one of the leading hotels here recently.
Among those present were the Northern Sarawak Journalist Association (NSJA) president Adrian Tan and his deputy, Rick Wong and exco members, executive editors and journalists of the Chinese newspapers and senior officials of Petronas from Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Miri.
Johannes added that although Petronas has carried out many meaningful collaborations in the past, he would like to see more smart partnerships between the media here and Petronas in the future especially on social and environmental related corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects or programmes.
“I am confident that there are many opportunities for NSJA to be our media partner in our CSR and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects in Miri,” he said.
On the dinner, he said it was to celebrate and share the joy of Chinese New Year and also to appreciate the media’s unwavering support for Petronas’ presence here and in the state.
Johannes said the dinner was the first formal engagement this year with the media here and hoped it will also mark the beginning of a strong partnership between the local media, NSJA and Petronas here.
Hopefully, it could also strengthen the already excellent rapport especially with NSJA which is a strong umbrella body that represents more than 200 media practitioners in resource-rich Miri division.
Tan in his brief speech assured that NSJA will continue to have smart partnership with Petronas. He also thanked Petronas for the excellent collaboration over the years.
