BINTULU: Twelve individuals, including three women, were detained when police raided three cyber gambling dens here on Monday and Tuesday.

They were aged between 19 and 40 years.

The ‘Ops Dadu’ raid hit cyber centres at Parkcity, Medan Jaya and Sungai Plan Commercial Centre.

Overall, 21 units of computers were seized and cash totalling RM345.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953.

If convicted, the premises owner can be fined up to RM10,000 per unit of gambling machine, five years imprisonment, or both, said Bintulu police chief Supt Madang Usat.

“We, thus, advise the people, especially the young ones, not to be involved in cyber gambling or visit such premises.

“We (police) will continue to curb cyber gambling in the division,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Last year, police here raided 79 premises, arrested 211 people, and seized 459 units of gambling machines and RM15,297 in cash.

From January to Feb 25 this year, five premises were raided, 31 people nabbed, and 42 units machines and RM495 cash were seized.

On an unrelated case, Madang said its narcotics unit recorded 48 cases of various offences from January to Feb 25 this year.

“Some 49 arrests were made and the biggest item seized is `syabu’ weighing 67.2 grams. They were investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“There were 29 cases investigated under Section 15(1)A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for positive drug test.”
