‘Kopi-C’ not so thirst-quenching after all

MIRI: She was thirsty and thought nothing else would be able to quench her thirst except a cold tall glass of ‘Kopi-C’.

That’s what she ordered from a coffeeshop here. And that ‘thirst’ and craving was one she would not want to experience again for she had to be rushed to a private clinic here for a check-up.

The doctor prescribed her anti-biotic and other medicines.

“The doctor who checked on me was surprised to see my condition.

“I described to him the drink –  iced coffee mixed with condensed milk and also showed the picture to him,” the girl said when sharing the experience with The Borneo Post recently.

She went on to share the story, and according to the doctor, the milk could have expired thus causing contamination in the drink.

The victim recalled that after having just a sip of the drink, which tasted sour and bitter at the same time, she immediately felt giddy and unstable with the strong urge to vomit.

She was unable to drive so her friend had to take over the wheel and rushed her to a private clinic here.

“I felt an excruciating pain in my head and I felt dizzy too while my body trembled,” the 20-year-old victim recalled.

Asked whether she informed the shop operator of the incident, she said she was too weak even to walk to the car, let alone to alert anyone.

She admitted that it was not her first visit to the shop. In fact it was one of her popular stop-over spots due to the convenience, but this time she was unfortunate.

Attempt to get comments from the relevant authorities was impossible because it was the weekend.
