GEORGE TOWN: Police have obtained an order to remand a Thai woman who was detained in an express bus last Friday until June 6 for investigation on a drug trafficking case.

State Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department head Supt Guan Beng Kang said the woman, who is a housewife, was detained by Immigration authority at the Sungai Dua toll area when she was found without a valid travel document.

He said the 47-year-old woman was on board the bus, which was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Changlun in Kedah.

She had two bags with her and following a search found they contained 40 packets of compressed ganja, each weighing 1kg.

“Police are questioning the woman, but having problems to communicate with her as she only speaks Thai. The woman tested negative for drug,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Guan said the Thai embassy had been informed about her arrest on suspicion of being a drug mule. — Bernama
