SC launches Invest Smart campaign

KUCHING: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) yesterday launched the InvestSmart campaign, a comprehensive investment literacy outreach under the SC’s Investor Empowerment initiative to enable more confident and informed retail participation in the capital market.

The SC in a press statement yesterday said InvestSmart aims to provide the public, particularly the next generation of investors, with valuable investment information, presented in a simplified format through new technology and multimedia platforms, which will supplement existing investor education channels.

SC chairman Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh said education and awareness are key elements of investor protection.

“It is important for investors to be empowered with the right knowledge to become informed and confident participants in the capital market.

“We also want to start a conversation about the capital market with young adults. This is why we are raising our investor empowerment efforts to a whole new level.

“By leveraging on digital and social media,InvestSmart will provide reliable and independent information and investment tools to the public, h  Ranjit said in his welcoming remarks at the launch of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the programme launch also witnessed the introduction of the InvestSmart’s website, Facebook page, starter kit and mobile application.

Through InvestSmart, the SC will also collaborate with various stakeholders, including other agencies, industry representatives and investors, to roll out a series of online and on-the- ground programmes to build responsible, informed and confident retail investors.

Additionally, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who was present at the launching of InvestSmart programme at Taylor fs University Lakeside Campus said,  gIt is important for the younger generation to have a head start in investing for greater financial security.

“I’m very pleased that SC is highlighting the need for our future generation to be more investment savvy.

“We all understand that the youth segment is more comfortable with bite-sized information available on-the-go.

“The SC fs strategic approach of using digital and social media to reach out to young potential investors is an exciting development and a step in the right direction,” he added.

On another note, the SC said the InvestSmart campaign will run throughout Malaysia starting with an investor weekend in the fourth quarter of the year.
