TUARAN: Police detained 24 people, including 12 children, during an operation at several illegal squatters here and in Tamparuli on Thursday.
District police chief DSP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the operation, dubbed “Ops Nyah”, was carried out on July 3 from 12am until 2am, was targeted at illegal squatters at Kampung Selupuh, here and Kg Bontoi in Tamparuli.
During the operation, 24 illegal immigrants, including 12 children, were detained for staying in the country illegally and without any valid documents, said Abdul Fuad.
He said those detained were taken to the district police headquarters for further investigation before handing them over the Immigration Department.
Abdul Fuad added that such an operation would be carried out from time to time to flush out illegal immigrants staying in the country illegally.
