KUCHING: The US Graduates Association (USGA) in the state will be focusing on education development and community work here.
USGA president Kent Kho said this at a dinner gathering with his members here on Friday.
“We want to reach out to the local community to improve their standard of living. We plan to help the local villagers to market their handicraft overseas so they can generate income to improve their lives,” he said.
He said that the locals who could make good handicrafts could not sell much of their products without proper marketing plans and channels.
In addition, he said the association would also want to help the society in terms of education. He said USGA would work closely with the Malaysian American Commission Educational Exchange (Macee) to work out programmes for the local students.
“We found that many youngsters go to other places to study other than the US. They are not aware of what the US can offer. So, we want to promote education in the US and introduce scholarships and other education opportunities in the states,” he said.
Kho, a professional recruiter, also planned to conduct workshops and trainings for the local graduates for them to secure a job as soon as they graduate.
He said the programmes would include resume writing and job interview skills.
