Indonesian discharged, acquitted of murder and causing grievous hurt

SIBU: An Indonesian charged with murder and causing grievous hurt walked out of the High Court here a free man yesterday after the court discharged and acquitted him.

Icuk Sugiato was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction for the murder of Taopik, also an Indonesian.

He was also charged with causing grievous hurt to an Indonesian woman, Siti Sila.

Both the alleged offences were said to have been committed at a sawmill in Sungai Bidut at 5am on May 1, last year.

Judge Supang Lian ruled that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him for both charges.
