MIRI: Miri Hospital Blood Bank collects some 8,000 pints of blood every year through various blood donation campaigns in the city.

In saying this yesterday, Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin explained that to achieve this result much credit had to go to the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter, which helped to organise blood donation drives regularly.

He thanked blood donors for their invaluable support, without which, he said, the blood bank would not be able to collect that much of blood.

He said this at the launching of the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day (WRCDC)

mass blood donation drive organised by MRC Miri held at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here yesterday.

“Blood is important to save lives, thus my great appreciation and thanks to all volunteers who have donated blood.”

It is very encouraging to see younger adult donors now coming forward to continue the trend of donating blood, he added.

“Young adults are becoming more aware of the importance of donating blood and more donors will ensure a sufficient blood stock to cater to the needs of the people,” Lee noted.

Some 100 donors participated in the campaign.
