SIBU: ABC United edged fellow Pakan team Ozoom United 2-0 to win the Sibu Division Social Development Ministry Cup (KPS Cup) futsal championship at TN Sport futsal court here.
William Begali scored following a goalmouth melee to put ABC United ahead 1-0 in the closing stages of the first half.
Ozoom United attacked in waves in the second half but could not find a breakthrough.
A counter attack from ABC United led Kennedy Jerome to seal the victory with a goal two minutes before the final whistle.
The champion and runner-up bagged prize money of RM1,500 and RM800 respectively.
ABC United will represent Sibu Division in the state-level KPS Cup to be held in Sarikei from Oct 1-3.
KBJ and BNG SJ, in joint third spot, collected RM400 each.
The women’s final was also decided by a similar margin.
Noor Suriasatila Mohd Syahril scored both goals to help D’syco collect the title and RM1,000.
Runner-up PJHMB pocketed RM700 while joint third Med United and Private received RM300 each.
ABC’s Francis Ligom and Nor Hanifah Mohiden from D’syco walked away with their respective best player awards.
A total of 21 teams took part in the men’s section and seven teams in the women’s.
The annual event, organised by Rejang Park Recreational Sport Club, was aimed at fostering closer rapport among members of the futsal community.
Sibu Division KPS first assistant secretary Mering Wan gave away the prizes.
