SARIKEI: A house built under the hardcore poor housing programme (PPRT) at Jalan Century was destroyed in a fire on Friday.

A spokesperson from the Sarikei District Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call was received at 3.49pm. A team of six firefighters aboard a fire engine rushed to the scene.
When the firefighters arrived around five minutes later, the fire was already at its height. It took the team around half an hour to completely douse the flames.
The spokesperson said it was unclear who the owner of the house was and the number of occupants.
According to neighbours, however, there was only one occupant whose previous house located at the same site also met the same fate a few years ago.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and the total loss incurred.
