KUCHING: More women should venture into business as opportunities have mushroomed following the implementation of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and anticipated increase in population.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, who gave the advice yesterday, said although SCORE was centred in the central region, its presence would create a domino effect across the state.

“It will be good for Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute (PPWS) to focus on business for its members. Think seriously about doing business, where opportunities are wide open,” said Naroden, when closing a course organised by PPWS and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) for 40 PPWS members.

He told those present that the purchasing power of people with high income would become stronger, while a population increase would result in more demand for a diverse range of services and products.

Products and services, he added, should also be promoted and sold online. He noted some entrepreneurs had been successful in doing just that.

Since networking is also an important element to succeed in business, he advised PPWS to network with government agencies to know better the programmes and aid available to start businesses.

“The government aspires to produce more entrepreneurs, and this is clearly stated in Budget 2015.”

Meanwhile, MPC senior consultant Yaila Mohd Nasir said MPC had teamed up with PPWS to organise 27 business-related courses in the state.

Yaila, representing state MPC director Mohd Norjayadi Tamam, said 1,061 PPWS members attended these courses.

PPWS chairwoman Aishah Edris was also present.
