SIBU: A former Rela member was arrested yesterday for allegedly impersonating as ‘Inspector Raymond’ to fleece his victims.
The 23-year-old suspect is believed to be the mastermind of a team posing as police officers.
Three members of the team were nabbed at a coffeeshop in Sibu Jaya last week.
A victim spotted the suspect accompanying his mother and family members at Central Market here around 11am yesterday.
The victim and his family immediately went after the suspect, and they managed to get hold of him with the help of several members of the public.
It is believed that the suspect was injured while trying to escape.
He was then handed over to police, who seized a walkie-talkie from him.
The suspect is said to have cheated his victim, a youth, by claiming that he could help him (victim) join the police force.
