Bogus cop makes off with motorcycle wheel

KUCHING: A general worker fell victim to a suspected bogus cop who made off with the rear wheel of his motorcycle late Monday night.

The 24-year-old from Jalan Bako had suffered a punctured rear tyre in Satok around 11.30pm and was waiting for his friends to arrive to assist him when an unknown man approached him.

Claiming to be a policeman, the man showed the general worker a card- which had what appeared to be a police emblem printed on it- before demanding he hand over his wallet for ‘inspection purposes’.

After finding nothing of value inside, the ‘cop’ returned the wallet intact and left the scene riding a Honda motorcycle.

Several minutes later, two of the victim’s friends arrived to help him fix his flat tyre and were in the midst of changing it when the same man showed up again and accused the three of them of committing a crime.

When the trio denied any wrongdoing, the man grabbed the victim’s punctured motorcycle tyre as well as one of his friend’s mobile phone, and told them to wait for a police van to arrive at the scene before speeding off with the two items.

Sensing they had been victimised by a fake cop, the victim and his friends headed to the police station and lodged a report.
