KOTA KINABALU: A 23-year-old man lost his life when he fell down from his motorcycle and hit by a Perodua MyVi car at Jalan Tuaran Bypass on Saturday night.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said that the mishap happened near Puri Warisan at Jalan Tuaran Bypass around 10pm, when the motorcyclist, Armee George Oudi from Kampung Sulaman, was on his way from Kota Kinabalu to Tuaran.

“The motorcyclist was trying to overtake a Perodua Kancil when his Honda Wave motorcycle grazed the rear side door of the Perodua Kancil causing him to lose control and fall over the road divider onto the opposite side of the road with his motorcycle.

“A Perodua MyVi car heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Tuaran failed to avoid hitting the motorcyclist and his bike and as a result both were flung into a drain at the road divider.

“The motorcyclist reportedly sustained severe injuries and was confirmed to have died at the scene,” he said.

Chandra revealed that the Perodua Kancil driver, Joterek @ Rino Mongingkap, was unhurt in the mishap. However, the Perodua MyVi driver reportedly left the scene without stopping.

“The mishap is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Chandra, adding that early investigation had shown that the mishap was caused by carelessness on the part of the Honda Wave motorcyclist.
