KUCHING: Axis Petra Jaya Track and Field Club is proud of the achievement by its members Mohd Arif Zulhelmi Alet and Mohd Afif Zulhusmi Alet at the recent Asean University Games (AUG) in Palembang, Indonesia from Dec 10-20.

Its president Fazaruddin Abdul Rahman said the success of the two brothers in delivering medals for the country should be emulated by young Bumiputera athletes in athletics.

“As the president, I am very happy and proud for the success of Afif and Arif in winning medals for Malaysia in an international competition.

Their achievement will serve as an inspiration and motivation to those young Bumiputera athletes in striving for glory in athletics,” he added.

Arif stole the limelight when he successfully defended the 400m gold medal he won in Laos in 2012.

He clocked 47.74s, just slightly behind his personal best of 47.42s.

The Perlis Sukma gold medallist also helped Malaysia win the silver in the 4x400m relay.

His brother Afif won the bronze medal in the 4x100m relay.

“I am hoping that the two brothers will work harder for more success especially Arif who has been roped into the national squad for SEA Games next year.

“AUG serves as the best platform for Arif to warm up for the SEA Games and, on behalf of the club, I hope Arif will achieve greater success at the SEA Games,” he commented.
