KUCHING: Some 1,280 computer sets used for online gambling have been seized by Padawan police so far since July last year.

Outgoing Padawan district police chief Supt Pauzi Bujang said the computers were confiscated through the 83 operations conducted during the period.

He told reporters yesterday that of the total, 48 cases were being prosecuted in court, while 35 were still under investigation.

Pauzi, 60, who is retiring after 40 years in the force, earlier inspected the Padawan station’s monthly parade and later handed over the duties to his successor DSP Yap Fui Lee.

Pauzi also told reporters that there was a drop of 12. 9 per cent (165 cases) in the index crime rate for district, compared to that recorded in previous corresponding record.

“During my tenure as the district police chief, I am very proud and satisfied with the performance as shown by the team here (in Siburan) with regard to the management and drop of crime rate,” he said.

According to him, there have been no further reports of cyber gambling and cock‐fighting in the district, noting that it was notorious for both crimes.
