KOTA KINABALU: The consumer contribution for connection of supply received by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) for financial year 2014 (FY14) amounted to RM72 million and not RM180 million as claimed by Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) members.

In a statement yesterday, SESB said the connection charges for connecting 33 kilovatt supply to the Riverson project was only RM5.75 million and not RM20 million as claimed.

SESB said this in response to a statement by SHAREDA president, Datuk Francis Goh, last Sunday.

“For supply projects above five mega volt ampere (MVA) requiring electrical sub-stations, SESB requests land from the developer.

This is also the practice in Tenaga Nasional Bhd, subject to a nominal value of RM1 for the sub-lease agreement,” it said.

It said if the developer was not able to provide the land, they would provide the sub-station building, usually more compact and attached to the main building.

SESB said being the company entrusted with the responsibilities of managing power utility in Sabah and Labuan, it was regulated by the authorities, where tariff and consumer connection charge were approved by Energy Commission of Malaysia and the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry. — Bernama
