BINTULU: About 50 orphans have registered at Bintulu Peryatim complex in Kampung Jepak during its soft opening yesterday.

The event was officiated by its management ex-co chairman cum Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datu Mohidin Ishak.

According to the complex administration manager Norhafiza Awang Moslim, there were 20 boys and 30 girls aged between seven and 17 years old from various backgrounds and religions.

“The first batch of children was from Kampung Jepak and Bandaria Park areas. For the second batch, probably in May this year, we will register more orphans from the Bintulu town area including Tatau and Sebauh,” she said.

Currently the complex has 10 staff and she said the entry registration is open every day. They can call her at 013-8485598.

Meanwhile, Mohidin said the soft opening yesterday was to welcome these children to their new home, complete with all the basic facilities for them to live, learn and grow like other children.

“This is a blessing for them and we pray that with all these facilities the children will get more benefits to live and become successful people.

“I would like to thank Bintulu Peryatim Association for their effort and responsibility throughout the years for taking care of the children,” he said.

The complex can accommodate about 300 children at any one time and Mohidin said more orphans in Bintulu will be registered in the near future.

“This complex is open to all orphans regardless of race and religion,” he added.

In the meantime, Mohidin urged the community to donate to the complex for its daily operations.

Present were Bintulu Peryatim Association chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, the complex ex-co member Latif Upit and Penghulu Drahman Kawi.
