Man serving time in prison jailed another eight years for house-breaking

KUALA LUMPUR: A prison inmate currently serving a five-year sentence for house-breaking, was slapped with an additional eight years’ jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday for breaking into another house.

Judge Datuk Jagjit Singh Bant Singh handed down the sentence on Ruzaini Abdullah, 38, after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a house belonging to Tan Lee Hing@ Tang Lee Hing, 48, two years ago.

Ruzaini was ordered to serve the sentence after completing the five-years’ jail he was currently serving.

Ruzaini, who used to work as a grass-cutter, pleaded guilty to breaking into the house and robbing the house owner of a handphone, RM25,000 worth of jewellery, and RM1,200.

The offence was committed at house No 111, Jalan Helang Kepong Baru, Sentul here between 3pm and 6.15pm on March 1, 2013.

The charge, under Section 457 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 14 years and a fine or whipping.

In mitigation, Ruzaini, who was unrepresented, asked for the eight-year jail sentence to be served concurrently with the one he was serving.

Ruzaini is currently serving sentence for breaking into a house in Subang Jaya on Aug 5 last year.
