KUCHING: Sibu made a clean sweep of the boys and girls titles in the 3rd Sarawak Youth U15 Basketball Championship which ended at Sri Aman Indoor Stadium last Sunday.
In the boys final, Sibu dashed Kuching’s dream of retaining their crown when they out gunned the latter 94-73.
The city boys led the game 22-16 in the first quarter but Sibu came back strongly to lead 42-35 at half-time. After the breather, Kuching tried to catch up but to no avail, trailing 56-66 at end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw Sibu stepping up a gear to launch continuous attacks and score points to win the game by 21 points.
Miri overwhelmed Samarahan 96-71 to finish third in the same category.
Meanwhile, Sibu claimed the girls title on Saturday after beating Kuching 83-54 in their final league match, thus staying unbeaten in three matches to collect six points and top the league standings.
The four-team competition saw Miri finishing in second place with five points from two wins and one defeat, followed by Kuching in third place with four points from one win and two defeats. Samarahan, who lost all their matches ended up last with three points.
