Eleven pageant hopefuls qualify for Sibu Kumang Gawai 2015

SIBU: Eleven beauties have qualified for this year’s Sibu Kumang Gawai Dayak, set to take place this May 23 at Kingwood Hotel here.

The bevy of Anna Luin, Michelle Thomas, Natali Laura Jenat, Flora Jenny Temenggong, Soffia Zain Nari, Naomi Selogo, Flora Jonathan, Sandy Kasa, Maidilin Sipang, Rapaella Agis and Emily Markus, won their spots in the finale following a recent audition, where they performed the ‘ngajat’ (Iban traditional dance), sang and introduced themselves.

The pageant is held in conjunction with the divisional-level Gawai Dayak celebrations.

The panel of judges consists of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu chairwoman Dato Alice Jawan, Sibu Divisional Gawai Dayak event advisor Catherine Nain Abit and Keling Gawai Dayak organising chairman Barieng Balai.

Winner of this year’s crown will walk away with RM1,000, while the first to fourth runner-up will receive RM800, RM600, RM350 and RM200, respectively.

The rest will each be given RM100 as consolation.
