Stop being choosy, grab available opportunities, job-seekers advised

MIRI: Today’s youths have been advised against being too choosy when it comes to seeking employment.

State Labour Department director August Buma believed that the young people should instead, grab good job opportunities that came their way.

On the department’s side, he said it could help them gain working experience through its job placement programmes across numerous sectors.

“In Miri, for example, there are 761 vacancies for various positions. Those who are still looking for jobs should grab such opportunity,” he said when met during the ‘Azam Job Placement Programme 2015’ at Miri Civic Centre recently.

On the breakdown of vacancies available here, he said there were 16 vacancies for the positions of lawmakers, senior officers and managers; 89 for professionals; 85 for associate professionals; 71 for clerical duties, 344 for sales and services, 42 for skilled workers in agriculture and fisheries sectors; 68 for workers in carpentry sector, 39 for plant operators, and seven for general labourers.

According to August, the job placement programme is also being held by the department across other divisions such as Kuching and Sibu.

“We will host the state-level programme in Miri this September, offering even more opportunities to those interested.”

Yesterday’s event had a participation of over 20 private companies across various industries such as hospitality, retail, services, oil and gas as well as agriculture.
