Hockey squads to keep unbeaten record in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: The national men’s and women’s hockey squads are determined to maintain their unbeaten record in the event at the SEA Games in Singapore next month.

This is inspite of the men’s team being represented by junior players as coach A Arul Selvaraj is confidence of the squad repeating the same success of the senior team two years ago in Myanmar.

In the Myanmar SEA Games, the national men and women’s squads won the gold without conceding a match.  The women’s squad created a world record when they defeated Cambodia 36-0.

“My challenge is to get them prepared mentally. From the aspects of skills and technical play, our squad is far ahead of the others. Nonetheless, I respect the other teams and our squad have to perform well to win,” he told reporters at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil. — Bernama
