KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian will know his fate on July 22 for injuring his wife.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus put off the sentencing of Sudin Laimba, 40, at the request of the prosecution as a medical report of the victim was not ready.
The accused pleaded guilty yesterday to causing hurt to his 43-year-old wife by the roadside in front of a cemetery at Taman Sempelang on June 12.
The offence was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The court ordered the accused to be further held in custody, pending his sentencing, as he had no valid travel document.
In an unrelated case, five men were convicted in the same court of consuming syabu.
Four of them received RM2,300 fine each, in default, five months’ imprisonment while another man was jailed for three months.
The accused admitted to each of their charges under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, upon conviction.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Jakariya Jupakkal told the court that the five accused were arrested at the Penampang and Menggatal police stations between May 15 and May 20 after their urine samples tested positive for drug abuse.
The magistrate also ordered them to be placed under police supervision for two years.
